In case you missed it, there is a fun quiz on africa. Do check it out if you havent already, just ten questions. When taking it, i learned that there is a school called ‘Ramses college for girls’ in Cairo. Not entirely sure why i was laughing…hard. Yani if i get a kido and she misbehaves i can yell ‘Quit playing, i will send you to Ramses college for girls!’

*(Its probably a really good sch, i am just using the name for corny-effect)

FHFIF- Fosters on itunes!

Some time ago, a certain gentleman gave me the link to the Fosters for Imaginary Friends blog, which i absolutely love. (Thank you very much M)

Just found out about this: I am soo excited to let other Foster’s fans out there know that Fosters is now on itunes. You can download the episodes to your hearts’ content. I know i will. Just a random fosters question, did any of you notice a change in Bloo’s voice, it seems to me that it has changed from the earlier episodes. Did they change the voice actor?

I can’t wait for the DVD. Come christmas time this is all i am wishing for.

BTW, do digg (vote for) WhiteAfrican’s Listd ebay service, its a great tool, plain and simple. plus si you know he is KBW. (If you do not have a digg account, just sign up for one, its a cool site esp. for you geeks wachimbi out there.) Very similar to muti :) – typically its said that muti is similar to digg but hey…muti, is moto hot.

Have a fab weekend.

Tag

Got tagged by spice bear. Tradition and all the bloggy things we do… Here we go.
Rules:

-Post six weird facts/habits about yourself. These cannot be used against you later on.
-At the bottom name the six people you will tag next.
-Leave them a comment to let them know they’ve been tagged and to read your blog.

1. Dishes in my kitchen have to be in groups of 4. If one goes missing (people taking bakshishi’s) I have to remove the remaining 3 of that design and replace them.
2. Same thing with spoons.
3. When i run out milk for cereal in the morning i use juice instead (Yeah i know – that’s uber weird). Its actually lighter than milk. It actually doesnt even matter which type of juice. Passion fruit juice is the yummiest.
4. Cannot stand people who eat while talking on the phone (used to have a job where i talked to alot of people on the phone – it would mess up my mood for the day) Just cant stand it. Double parkers also annoy me.
5. I prefer men’s pajamas. I think they are well designed and are more comfy than womens. Come to think of it, i also like men’s watches, some by Kenneth cole are not too masculine so i can get away with wearing one.
6. I’d rather not eat anything made with Splenda or any other artificial sweeteners.

Now the people to be tagged… Strawberries and Whis (Coz they’ve gone AWOL on us) and if you havent please feel free to share the weird side of you.

The second is ‘The Dark Side’ – After 9/11, ‘…the battle between the vice president and the CIA — a battle that many believe has destroyed the CIA.’ More info about the pre-iraq war cabal. You can watch the program on the link above on Thursday June 22nd. (Whis – Where are you?)

WC rant/Conversations…

I am abit agitated right now and almost threw my remote at my tv-watching the ABC pre-game commentary before the mexico vs iran game; just tooo annoying, plus i just wanted to lunge at the dude-Alexi Lalas with the bad mop of hair and pull it all out. ABC and ESPN2 have failed miserably in their coverage of the world cup. Their sportscasters suck. Kabinti – I feel you. She is abit more gracious than i feel about the WC coverage.
O.k i have to admit, i wasn’t very excited about the world cup…something changed. I asked my pal to record the opening ceremony and all of friday’s games since they were telecast in the morning. You know what?! ABC and ESPN did not telecast the opening ceremony. Then during the germany vs costa rica game the sportscaster (am just going to call them casters for the rest of this post) refers to how beautiful and amazing the opening ceremony was. Oh yeah? You are mentioning this now WHY? When you advertise and say that you will be covering the WC why the heck didnt you put disclaimers that you would only cover the things you think ‘American audiences’ would watch? Oh more true to form why didnt you just say that you stomp on the world cup spirit of unity by not even acknowledging or showing it all, better yet, just tell us that you step on daisies wherever you see them. Aargh. Just now, on ABC they show the players entering the field, then they go on commercial. I switch to telemundo, they are showing mexico and iran singing their respective national anthems. ABC doesnt want you to know that other countries have their own anthems that they are patriotic too?(Well, well, i know the ads have to be slipped in at some point…am ranting…) moving along. My cousin mentioned that during the England Vs Paraguay game that aired early saturday, a player was abt to score and the caster was talking about how Beckham is married to Posh spice of the Spice Girls. What?! Someone is abt to score El Stupido, STFU!, and if someone doesnt know who Beckham is married to…well, they should change the blinking channel and do not deserve to watch the WC. After reading Guess’s suggestion on Kabinti’s blog, i decided to check on BBC America to see if that is an alternative to the banter on ABC, Nada, zilch. For now its Telemundo for the pre-game video, back to ABC and ESPN for the live coverage, thank god today’s live-game-casters know a thing or two abt the game and dont talk incessantly about the US team and useless basketball , baseball or NFL american football analogies. Now if they had stretched it to include Nascar analogies…there is no telling what am capable of doing – Screaming soo loudly that glasses would break would be a good start.
Speaking of useless…
The following is a real conversation that took place on a friday (as told to me by cousin C)

A: Oh you know what?! Am excited abt the world cup!
B: What, you mean like golf?*

*How the heck do you confuse the golf classic cup and the world cup?
O.k well Mexico just scored, fans waving sombrero’s…well my rantfest is over. Oh one more thing…another convo during WC match between Germany and Costa Rica…
Girl: Who is that guy?
Boy: Who – the coach for Germany?
Girl: Is that who he is?
Boy: Yeah, Juergen Klinsmann…why?
Girl: Oh he is Cute…
Boy: (exasperated, almost angrily) It has no bearing to the game! If chupacabra was the coach you would hate the team?
Girl: Well yeah…

Hiatus.

Iam taking a break for alittle while. For now, enjoy The many faces of Solar, a photo gallery from Cnet, of pictures showing different solar technology.
null
The above image is of a solar concentrator by Stirling Engine systems. According to Cnet, Stirling systems can set up an array to produce 500MW.

While am away, please look at your electricity bill, and if you would be so kind as to post your energy consumption in KWh.

Mine for last month was 742kWh, (25.5kWh per day) and in my area it costs $1.36 per day.
I am particularly interested in the cost of elec in kenya.

Also, check out this month’s issue of Wired Magazine, there are several articles that were good to read, one on Al Gore, if you were reading KP when she went to Pop Tech, well, she and Ethan Z covered most of what is in the article. It is still worth a read though. Sometimes i will read a couple of pages and skip over some stories, but this month – well maybe its because one of my fave Wired writer Daniel Pink had a piece on ‘The rise of Neo greens‘. Alex Steffen of worldchanging writes on ‘The next green revolution’. Just buy it or read it online, perhaps am abit of a granola head, but i think it was a great issue of wired!

Thank you, and be well.

An update and some random links

Quick update on JJR’s review of Confessions of an Economic hitman…JJR adds in the comments section, in case you missed it…

I was think of Kenya when writing this comment about the book:

â??Ever wonder how the US lined up so many countries in Africa and Central / South America for Bushâ??s â??coalition of the willingâ?ť to invade Iraq? Was it not further interesting that those countries who supported Bush on Iraq were given massive debt relief from World Bank and other loans a few years later?â?ť

Tanzania was on the debt relief list but Kenya was not. Guess which of these two countries refused to join Bushâ??s so-called â??coalition of the willingâ?ť? Here is a list of the 150 countries who refused to join:

hmm, i finished the book, and i hadnt really thought about the link between the fact that Kenya’s debt was not forgiven and the ‘war on terror’, or is it the ‘struggle against global extremism’ or…wotteva the new phrase is.

Iscatterlings is a blog i stumbled across via muti, i am hooked. KP i think you might like this one. Be sure to read his series on technobilge or verbal tech kung fu[i borrowed the phrase...gee cant remember from where] – (someone speaking with too much tech jargon that it confounds understanding…) and ‘Dear World’

I – my fellow africans, am in the Mixx with Magaidi! check it out!

On the solar front, there is soo much information on this link to The International Solar Energy Society. (thanks Brian!)

This coming week, i will attempt to answer any solar questions you may have. I am not an expert, but i can look up a decent answer to questions you can throw at me. Please post the questions in the comments section or email me afromusing at gmail [this should be fun!] Have a great weekend y’all.
